VIOLA offers low-threshold services for both the victims and the perpetrators, and there are separate workers for women, children, and men. We work with individuals, couples and families. There are also different kinds of groups available, e.g. peer support groups.
In addition to the violence work, there are other services available in VIOLA too. Miesten asema (“Men’s station”) is focused on developing services for men in challenging life situations. Kieppi – kiertävä perhekeskus (“moving family center”) allows families with children to participate in preventing, intensive day group activity in Mikkeli and nearby municipalities. Additionally, we offer support services for divorcing or divorced parents and their children.
VIOLA aims to strengthen the regional cooperation, collaboration, and coordination for preventing and eliminating violence in close relationships. VIOLA offers also education, consultation, and supervision for authorities, organizations, and other communities facing close-relationship violence issues in their work.
VIOLA is strongly involved in developing violence work both regionally and nationally in the form of different projects and cooperation. Our current projects have to do with sexual harassment and violence faced by young people (the My Space, Not Yours! project), supporting the everyday life after leaving a women’s shelter (the ARKI! project), and over-generational maltreatment (the Ylisukupolvisen Kaltoinkohtelun Katkaisu project). We are also developing a national support center (the Varjo center) of post-relationship stalking.
VIOLA – Free from Violence is a member association of the Federation of Mother and Child Homes and Shelters in Finland.
